"I think your fridge is dying" -Text from JR, 1:50am
"Its been making a loud noise all day. Now there's water in front of the freezer and the stuff inside is melting."
Well, reality has set in, and it is the refridgirator went from dying to dead. After a service call, the guy asked if we had cleaned our coils regularly....now, we had just bought the house, but I never though to "clean the coils" before...though I do seem to have distant memory of my mom moving the fridge and vaccuming there a few times a year when I was a kid...
He told me that it should be done ever few months, especially if you have pets. If not, a buildup of fur, dust and dirt surrounds the cooing coils. This actually isulates them, making them have to work double duty to keep your fridge cool. Over time, this makes your fridge less efficient, drives up the cost to run, prevents your fridge from cooling to desired temprature, and kills your compressor at an early age due to the overworking.
We checked under your already dead refridgirator, and what did we find? A hairball the size of our Shiba Inu . Hmm...lesson learned?
